As the owner of Bluejacket Builders, Nick Obrochta’s day-to-day responsibilities are always evolving. “Over the past five years, our client base has grown significantly,” Nick shares, “so my role has shifted to focus more on sales, design, operations, and outreach.” While he still loves getting out into the field, much of his time is now spent behind the scenes, keeping the business running smoothly and ensuring every client gets the high level of communication and service they deserve.
Nick doesn’t view other remodeling companies as competitors. In fact, he’s proud to collaborate with many of them through NARI. “There are so many great remodelers doing amazing work,” he says. “We focus on what we can control — the quality of our work, our process, and attention to detail.” That client-first mindset, along with genuine excitement for each project, shines through and helps his company stand out in a crowded field.
After high school, Nick chose not to follow the traditional four-year college path and instead joined the U.S. Navy. That experience gave him a global perspective and a desire to give back. When he started his business, one goal stood out — showing high school students the value of a career in the trades. “I’ll never forget seeing my high school’s cabinet shop turned into a computer lab,” Nick recalls. “That stuck with me.” Through NARI Milwaukee, he’s been able to take that passion even further. Now the chair of the Outreach Committee, Nick works alongside other professionals to connect with local schools and open students’ eyes to the rewarding world of construction and remodeling.
Whether it’s connecting with other pros at After 5 events or meeting homeowners at the NARI Home & Remodeling Show, Nick credits NARI as a major driver of his company’s growth. At every event, he makes it a point to talk to someone new — a simple practice that has led to lasting relationships, fresh ideas, and real business benefits. One of those connections even led to the adoption of an AI-based scheduling program that transformed his client intake process. He’s also passionate about helping his connections succeed. “I visit so many homes throughout the year, and homeowners often mention other projects they’d like to tackle,” Nick explains. “If it’s not something we do, I love being able to refer them to someone I know and trust through NARI.”
Nick's advice to new members? “Don’t sit on the sidelines. NARI is what you make of it.” For him, the networking, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative spirit have had a powerful impact both professionally and personally. “It doesn’t matter the size of your business — if you show up, you’ll walk away with something valuable.”
